our approach to counseling and therapy
At EcoWellness, we believe that healing and growth don’t happen in a perfectly balanced life. Our goal is to help you move beyond performance‑based burnout culture and embrace a beautifully unbalanced existence—one where you can reconnect with purpose, find meaning in nature and relationships, and feel grounded even when life feels messy. Guided by over 30+ years of combined clinical experience, we blend evidence‑based practices with a warm, relational approach. Although we can’t change your circumstances, we’ll work with what’s present to build resilience, calm your nervous system and realign you with your values.
Phases of Therapy
Assessment – In the Assessment phase, we’ll explore your presenting concerns, strengths, and personal history. Together we’ll identify past experiences and present triggers, map areas where you feel out of balance, and develop a plan that supports your connection with yourself, others, and nature. This collaborative process lays the groundwork for your personalized treatment plan.
Resourcing – Building internal and external resources helps you manage day‑to‑day life and prepare for deeper work. Internal resources might include mindfulness, dual‑awareness exercises, thought‑stopping strategies, and other self‑soothing techniques. External resources could involve supportive relationships, spiritual connections, spending time in nature, and healthy lifestyle choices. We revisit this stage as needed to ensure you feel safe and supported throughout therapy.
Reprocessing and Redefining – In this phase, we work through the experiences and patterns that hold you back, using modalities like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT, mindfulness, eco‑therapeutic interventions, or a combination of these. The focus is on reshaping beliefs about yourself and the world so you can genuinely think and feel good across different situations. Progress is continually assessed and adjusted to meet your goals.
Transition and Maintenance – When you’ve met your therapy goals, we collaboratively plan for termination or transition. You’ll leave feeling more balanced and capable, knowing you can return for “tune‑ups” if needed. Healing isn’t linear, and maintaining progress is part of living an unbalanced yet purposeful life.
Theoretical Foundations
Our integrative approach draws from EcoWellness, cognitive‑behavioral therapy (with mindfulness‑based stress reduction), Internal Family Systems, EMDR, existential counseling, and Relational Cultural Therapy. When clinically appropriate, we apply harm‑reduction principles to psychedelic‑assisted therapy—focusing on preparation and integration for clients who wish to safely explore and make meaning of their psychedelic experiences. We do not provide psychedelic substances at our practice. This blend of modalities allows us to tailor therapy to your unique needs while honoring the messiness of being human.
